I live on the Oak Ridges Moraine. It is the drinking water source for many people in Northumberland County, and it should be left as is, and not subject to more wells and more septic systems from more development . We had a level 2 drought in 2016 for 6 months when wells went dry, farmers could not care for their livestock and crops wilted so we need our water source protected.
Also, farming is hugely important in this area. As a wise person said, "They are not making any more land," and that includes farmland. If you allow development on farmland, how will we feed the huge influx of residents to Ontario that your government is using as one excuse for grabbing Greenbelt land?
Also, every expert I've read on this matter says that adding protected land near Erin is NOT a way to compensate for taking lands from the original Greenbelt. They say most of the land you're proposing to add is already protected, and also will not help protect the Paris-Galt Moraine.
Also, it is necessary for the Greenbelt to be as contiguous as possible to allow animals connections for their habitat and travel.
Another important point: your bill never mentions "affordable" housing, just housing. Experts predict your seizing Greenbelt lands coupled with Bill 23 will simply increase expensive suburban sprawl. Instead, you should be using the 80,000 acres already zoned for building in ON, and well as encouraging gentle densification of towns and cities.
Do the right thing: Premier Ford should NOT break his promise about the Greenbelt just to reward his developer friends who contribute vast sums to his campaigns! And Bill 23 needs to pretty much quashed.
