I live on the Oak Ridges Moraine. I am strongly opposed to the Ford government's policy of giving developers the right to build housing developments on the Greenbelt and on the Oak Ridges Moraine. These lands are needed for agriculture, wildlife and human recreation, as well as limiting urban sprawl. Previous governments, including Conservative governments, have wisely enacted legislation to protect these lands. The Ford government has available to it thousands of acres of other lands on which new housing developments can occur.
I am also strongly opposed to the measures that the Ford government is taking to weaken the power of Municipal governing bodies. This is obviously a move intended to help the Ford government succeed in ramming through measures that are essentially an attack on protected lands.
I find it most ironic that it is the The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing that is seeking feedback on proposed changes to the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan. Where is the Ministry that is responsible for the environment in this matter???? Laying low, it seems. Politicians putting their personal or party well-being before doing what is right, before protecting the environment.
Hands off the Oak Ridges Moraine!
