I think it would be far more prudent, congruent with the current government's self-styled image of being "for the people," and, frankly, respectful towards the 3+ million voters that did not vote for the current government ( which represent a majority of citizens over those that did, and who supported parties that had no plans to remove the bill in question) that the Ministry in question, and the Government more generally, develop its own comprehensive climate change plan and disseminate it to the public prior to striking down the current one. This hypothetical plan should then be presented to the public, and then a proper and extensive public consultation carried out to determine which of the plans the public finds more agreeable to them. Right now this government pays mere lip service to the notion of being for the people. Prudence, respect, integrity are important values for a party whose roots are, in part, in traditional values and virtues. The way things are currently being carried out with respect to bill 4 do not represent those.
Going forward, I urge the government to make a firm commitment, reflected in serious and innovative policies, to replacing the bulk, if not the entirety, of the province's reliance on fossil-fuels with clean, green, and mostly renewable energy within the next 3 decades. Our nation, and indeed the globe, has seen incredibly rapid, revolutionary and large-scale transitions in technologies and infrastructure in the near past: from steam, to coal, oil, gas, nuclear, and renewables such as solar, hydro, biomass, thermal and wind in just over a century. But these transitions require consistent, principled and willing governments to invest in and integrate the available resources in a society, private and public, to effectively achieve them. I would like this government to commit investments, incentives and favourable laws towards green technology and the green energy sector, which have been proven to be both job and money creators; to develop green infrastructure; and to implement laws and grant incentives to ensure both municipalities and individuals re-orient their operations and lives, respectively, around greener and healthier cities and lifestyles, which promote the reduction of greenhouse gases, toxic emissions, and the rehabilitation of the environment.
