I would like to register my strong opposition to any private development of housing on land presently designated as part of the Greenbelt. If the government is serious about building 1.5 million housing units, it must recognize that 50,000 houses on land that has been roped off from development for good reason should not be an essential part of achieving that goal. The Ontario Housing Affordability Task Force stated as recently as February stating that "a shortage of land isn’t the cause of the problem". A freethinking citizen can thus conclude that this government’s zealous and singleminded focus on housing development in the Greenbelt relates more to paying back favours its donors then any sincere effort to alleviate Ontario’s housing shortage. The PC party’s hypocrisy on this front is visible at a riding level in MPP Stan Cho’s direct invoquent in slowing the installation of the Willowdale Manor housing project.
