“ There are 78 species at risk, including 25 plants, 25 birds, 12 reptiles, 6 fish, 5 mammals, 2 butterflies, 2 amphibians, and 1 dragonfly.”

This came from the Greenbelt website today. I have searched high and low in this proposal to find the expected outcomes for these species if we were to convert protected wildlife habitat into homes. What is the ecology of these regions? Do these regions provide habitat to the species at risk? Are these areas important corridors for organisms in the area? What kind of forests would we need to remove to build these homes? How would these homes effect the hydrology of the regions? Why is it necessary to amend acts and tamper with what little natural areas we have left in this part of Ontario? Will these homes be community housing and publicly funded to deal with the poverty crisis for low income families who have trouble finding homes? Or will these homes start at 1 million and have 3 acre plots? There is not enough information in this proposal to make an informed decision, therefore I do not support this proposal.
