Hello, having the minister of housing revoke the MZO intended to protect the Duffin's Rouge Agricultural Reserve is a gross misuse of power. I am extremely disappointed, and against, removing any protections around the preservation of this agricultural reserve, including removal of the Greenbelt designation. The Duffin's Rouge agricultural reserve is the only agricultural reserve in Ontario, and considering the fact that we are losing farmland in Ontario at a staggering rate of 0.94% of our farmland per year, it is both confusing and egregious, that such protections would be removed from the reserve. We have options to house people without accelerating paving over farmland, and we should actively be choosing those options. The government seems intent on ignoring those options at a loss for the Ontario public and farm community, and worse, it would appear to solely benefit certain developer landowners. We should be preserving that prime farmland for years and generations to come, as was initially intended. We do not need to remove protections or develop those lands to meet our housing requirements, as there is both a huge amount of land already approved for development waiting to get built upon, and we are not infilling or densifying our communities as much as we can, and need to be doing.
