I am against urban boundary expansion by building on farmland and the Greenbelt. I would like underutilized land within cities to be used first. There is a lot of urban land in my city of Hamilton that is not developed. Also, since affordable housing is urgently needed, it is housing within the city that is needed by people on low incomes. Without access to transit and other city amenities people needing affordable places can not live very far outside the city core. Lastly expanding city boundaries when the citizens themselves have asked them not to be expanded is not only counter to democracy but is forcing citizens to support new infrastructure when current infrastructure is in desperate need of maintenance. Taxes can't go higher in Hamilton otherwise more people will enter into the working poor.
