Waterloo Region just passed an Official Plan after much discussion with the public. Many of us who live in this region believe that the current Official Plan is a good plan to help preserve farmland for future generation yet it also provides space for the building of a variety of housing. The Waterloo region has some of the best farmland in North America and we should do everything we can to preserve this land so we can be food self-sufficient in the coming years. We must not depend on food shipped from California and Florida. Trucking food from far away is not environmentally sustainable and when coming from a foreign country we have no control over the quality of the food we receive.
The last thing we need on this farmland is urban sprawl that requires more roads, more services, more cars on the roads, conflict between farmers and people who sprawl into the countryside.
I am asking that the well thought out Official Plan not be changed but respected because it was developed by the people who live in this region. I believe that we have come up with the best solution for this area and I whole heartily support the current plan.
