This proposal is extremely short sighted and dangerous for boaters. The whole point of putting into an anchorage is to have a safe, protected space while on your boat. Requiring that you can only anchor more than 300m from shore would completely defeat this purpose and put boaters - including families and children - at risk. And it would also result in the outright elimination of an excessive number anchorages on the lakes. Not to mention, the problems you claim to be trying to solve are already addressed by other regulations and bylaws (ie, excessive noise, pollution, etc.). It would seem that this proposal is solely meant to give more power to rich cottagers and extend their own “property” far out into the waterways, for free. There are thousands of people who belong to an active sailing cruising community on the Great Lakes who would be severely negatively impacted by these proposed regulations.
