I support not allowing floating residences to be set up, mostly because I believe the resident should pay property taxes and these container floating homes are dodging that responsibility
.
However, some of the changes in this proposal are not acceptable, particularly the no mooring in a boat 300 m within shore. The Parry Sound area with its narrow channels that provide sheltered mooring for larger cabin cruisers may not work with the 300 m limit. There are cottages around every point and island. Where will the cruisers moor safely?
Certainly we cannot have unregulated floating communities. However, I feel that control of who travels and stays on the waterways around vacation homes will be an unintended result of this amendment. By making mooring impossible, boaters will just go elsewhere, and essentially cottagers have the right to have their area of the Bay to themselves. The waterways are supposed to be public. This creates a gated community of sorts where only those who can afford it, can go. This was not my experience growing up on Georgian Bay and I certainly do not want to see access to the beauty of the Bay reserved for a select few. I do not support this amendment as it stands right now.
