I am deeply concerned about the negative environmental impacts that will result from the proposed amendments to the Mining Act (ERC# 019-6715), as these changes would significantly weaken environmental protections and mine rehabilitation requirements in Ontario. Our wildlife and native habitats are under increasing threat from climate change and expanding developments, and strong regulations requiring comprehensive mine closure plans before mining work begins and appropriate financial planning to cover clean-up costs after mine operations cease are essential to preserve these organisms and habitats for the future. While mining is an important part of Ontario's economy now and in the future, it must be done responsibly.
