It is not appropriate to have a sewage disposal site at this location due to a number of health and environmental issues. Since this is human sewage from septic systems, it not only will have human waste but all the other things people sometimes dispose of in portable toilets and septic systems such as diapers, sanitary pads and tampons and condoms. These as well as human waste can have a significant impact on our environment and health. Microscopic plastic fibres can impact the ecosystems and damage the food chain or harm animals. Since this is planned for surface spreading and the area around the site typically has surface water and a nearby creek, it is a risk for contaminating the ground water. This could lead to disease and illness in humans and wildlife. Diseases that can be spread through contaminated water sources include E. coli and Hepatitis A. Some of us in the area only have our water by well and do not have access to municipal water so this is a significant concern.
The EPA has acknowledged that pathogens from land application are a major environmental concern and that certain human pathogens in sewage have the potential to cross species and infect animals
Under the Safe Drinking Water Act-we are entitled to have safe water for drinking and health!
