I am an opponent of the changes to land use and planning that are proposed in Bill 97. The removal of local planning decisions and the severing of farms into small lots, are among my concerns. These, and other changes, will devastate our farmlands, raise land prices beyond the reach of young farmers. The uncontrolled development that these o allows is inconsistent with planning to preserve water resources for Waterloo Region. These changes will allow development that threatens sensitive areas of the Grand River Watershed, the wetland system and replenishing of the aquifers we depend on.
The Ministries that are party to these changes need to reexamine the effects of these changes on the health of the environment of the Region and the sustainability of the resources we need to provide for population growth.
