I am asking that Ontario upholds its ban on penned dog hunting. Penned hunting is a cruel practice for the captive prey. Regardless of any pods or shelters that are put in place, the fair chase practice that occurs with regular hunting activities is removed.
In addition to the cruel and inhumane aspect of the practice, studies show that penned hunting can have serious consequences for public health. The interaction between the dogs and wildlife can contribute to the spread of disease and parasites, including zoonotic diseases that can hurt wild animals, domestic animals, and humans.
Ontario acted appropriately in 1997 when dog hunting pens were outlawed. I am asking that you not be the government to reinstate this barbaric practice.
