Dear Minister Piccini,
I’m incredibly disappointed and disheartened to hear that the provincial Government of Ontario is proposing an amendment that will allow transfers and renewals of licenses for training and trial centres where hunting dogs are trained.
To allow captive wildlife to be entrapped and unnecessarily used to train hunting dogs is to show the highest degree of inhumanity and cruelty. As an Ontarian and a believer in treating animals—wild or domestic—with dignity and respect, I strongly condemn your government’s proposal to push through this amendment. As Minister of the Environment, you have a duty to protect our land and the creatures that live on it.
Who is profiting from this amendment? It certainly isn’t the average Ontarian. You need to seriously think about and consider your responsibilities as Minister versus what you believe will be gained by perpetuating this cruelty.
Please advocate for your government to do the right thing for once! I’m positive that the vast majority of Ontarians would not agree with this amendment, if they were aware of it. This amendment does not represent who Ontarians are. It’s time to stop catering to special interests.
Once again, do the right thing and stop this amendment to the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act!
-A Highly Concerned Ontarian
