There are many reasons why I oppose the amendment to the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act that will allow new licenses/the transfer of existing licenses for dog train and trial areas in Ontario. Capturing wildlife for the purpose of training dogs to hunt is archaic, unethical, inhumane and promotes animal cruelty. This unnecessary practice will inflict extreme stress, trauma and cause unnecessary suffering to wild animals. Wildlife should never be taken from their natural environments and held captive to be used as live bait, and as a progressive province this treatment of wildlife should have no place in Ontario. Instead of allowing new applications or transferring existing licenses, the current 24 locations should be closed immediately.
