This proposal for water taking by Sarjeant Gravel Co. must be turned down,. The Oro Moraine is critical to not only Oro-Medonte water supply but also Lake Simcoe.
According to the MECP a Category 3 indicates "water takings are anticipated to have the highest potential of causing unacceptable environmental impactor interference". The Oro Moraine is where most of the residents of Oro-Medonte get their water. This proposal would allow Sarjeant to consume up to 130 million litres of water per year from aquifers on the Oro-Moraine, which is a sensitive environmental area and critical water source.
This proposal is for a significant quantity of water and when combined with other aggregate producers and other heavy users (eg: water bottling) in the vicinity, we will place a huge drain on these aquifers. Aquifers are vast, but not unlimited. This permit must be turned down.
