We have concerns regarding two policy areas in the Region of Durham Official Plan, 2023.

Policy Area 1 - Recognition of Funeral Home Establishments and other Subsidiary Internment Uses within Cemeteries by providing adequate and correct definitions in alignment with the current Funeral Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2022, inclusive of subsequent December 2017 amendments; and

Policy Area 2 - Revision of specific Major Open Space Areas policies that limit the future development potential of cemetery land; and, the provision of exceptions to cemetery uses, similar to the exceptions afforded to other passive open space uses.

Both policy areas of concern are discussed in detail on the attached letter.
