I do not agree with this proposal.
This government is heavily into the mindset that the ends justify the means. Shame. If they are proposing to build below the water table, a developer should be denied.
I thought, even if this government wasn't about doing something to prevent climate change, it was at very least about mitigating the impacts and adapting to climate change.
It's not forward-thinking to believe that building below the water table is safe OR affordable, especially in the face of climate change. In addition to increased risks of water damage to personal belongings, there are definite implications for whether and how much insurance people will be able to get.
It is too arrogant to think we can rebuild wetlands and habitats for species at risk for what they need. Even rudimentary logic tells us that the key is to prevent habitat loss, not build "replacements" elsewhere.
The government speaks of it's "strict" environmental standards after diminishing the wetland classification process and removing species at risk as a criterion. It has stripped the authority of "Conseravation AUTHORITIES" on several key fronts.. and is trying to do it again. This, after you have actually said that this topic is part of their "core mandate". How are they going to be able to do their job if they don't know what's happening?
What garbage... I'm sorry, this is so infuriating. Please do not move forward with this proposal. It is a bad idea.
