Our family lives near the Associated Paving & Materials Ltd Plant in the townhomes just south of the Plant towards Harvester and Prince William Drive.
We would like it be noted that we strongly oppose this expansion proposal for numerous and critical reasons, namely:
- environmental concerns
- air quality concerns
- health and safety concerns
Implementation of this proposal will mean increased adverse effects in our neighbourhood -- noxious emissions, odors dust, noise, to name a few, and overall, decreasing the air quality in this neighbourhood and putting the health, safety, and wellness of families/residents at risk.
Very close to the plant (just south of Harvester) are residential, community-focused areas with a high density of families. For example, our street (between the train tracks and Prince William Drive) is filled with vulnerable groups -- infants, kids, pets, and also senior citizens.
It is not good that this plant currently operates where it does -- next to parks, families, recreational areas where kids and families are playing -- never mind expanding and intensifying their operations.
On a personal note, we have a baby due next month, and we would like to be able to take our newborn outside for walks, and enjoy the nearby parks and trails, without fear and anxiety about toxins, emissions, and overall air quality. We would very much like our newborn to be exposed to fresh, good quality air as opposed to noxious air and toxic compounds.
There is already so much construction happening in this area as it is. The health, safety, wellness of families and vulnerable groups needs to be prioritized.
This proposal is creating anxiety and concerns for families in this neighbourhood.
