I am appalled at the proposal to establish flowering rush as only restricted and not prohibited. There has been evidence of it taking over areas around the Winnipeg River causing damage to native species and destruction to cottage owners' property. It is aggressive and out of control and now found at Lake of the Woods, particularly Clearwater Bay, Zig Zag Island, where we have a cottage. It is taking over the bull rushes that are native species that help the aquatic native species. It is also known to take over wild rise stands and is taking over shorelines. Flowering rush must be stopped and should be restricted, and steps must be taken to destroy the flowering rush that exists through pesticides or other proven effective measures to stop its spread. I urge you to classify this as prohibited and to outline steps to eradicate its existence before it takes over large bodies of water like Lake of the Woods.
