Please find Credit Valley Conservation’s comments on the proposed regulation of ten species and four genera as invasive species under Ontario’s Invasive Species Act.
CVC agrees with the addition of the regulation of these species and genera to the Invasive Species Act. However, CVC recommends increased enforcement and communication to the public and businesses to ensure the act is followed.
CVC would like to see clarification why incidental capture would be allowed for Ide, Eastern Mosquitofish, Western Mosquitofish, and Red Shiner. CVC recommends adding that these species, if caught, should be euthanized, not released back into the water and the location and date reported to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
CVC recommends that transition periods for Red Shiner, Genus Salvinia, Genus Procambarus, Genus Pacifastacus be clearly stated and be short.
