It would appear to me that this relaxation of the rules concerning wastewater and stormwater management is akin to the actions of the Provincial government which led to the worst failure of public health protection in the history of the Province; namely the Walkerton Tragedy. The role of government is to do everything possible to ensure the safety and security of its citizens and to suggest that relaxing the regulatory oversight to allow essentially self registration and regulation by industry concerning wastewater and stormwater management is simply a ridiculous suggestion.
Governments learn lessons from events like Hurricane Hazel and the Walkerton disaster and then as time passes the leaders forget the lesson and put our society at risk. Please don't abdicate your regulatory responsibilities when it comes to protecting public health and our fragile environment.
