I implore this government to re-evaluate the need to streamline water takings for construction sites for the sake of speed and development.
While I understand Ontario needs to increase its housing capacity and maintain economic health, doing so at the expense of community and environmental health demonstrates poor judgment and complete ignorance of our current socio-environmental situation. Is socio-environmental even a thing? Who knows. What I do know is that the last time regulation was de-prioritized, half the population of an Ontario town got sick and 7 people died. We are coming off the heels of a global pandemic, and are facing the gradual consequences of climate change. I’m confused why this government is proposing this legislation when environmental protection is not only paramount to the economic and physical health of the Ontario community, but also a trending topic, and could probably make both government and developers more profit in the long run if strategic and long-term thinking were employed.
