Removing the requirement for private entities such as builders or developers to adhere to an environmental review process is not a good idea. Having proper standards, as well as a clear, well defined, and accountable process that everyone needs to adhere to makes more sense especially when it comes to the building of infrastructure and other large-scale developments. Leaving things up to private companies, especially as public resources are increasingly limited, creates more possibilities for potential problems to remain unnoticed and may grow to be larger problems than they otherwise would be. There are very few public benefits to going this route. Given this, the government should abstain from enacting this and other similar pieces of legislation and rather work to properly regulate those who are operating in this province.
