I am very concerned about…

I am very concerned about the streamlining proposals that are described in this ERO. Specifically, I worry that eliminating critical government and public scrutiny from some projects could have significant impacts on the environment and human health. Currently we have important regulatory tools in place to protect our water such as permits for extracting more that 50,000 litres of groundwater per day; the ability for public consultation that allows communities to have a say in decisions that may impact them: and requirements for industry to notify local conservation authorities of water-taking practices in order to facilitate collaborative management of water resources and municipal infrastructure. It is up to our provincial government to protect its citizens and their environment. Allowing self regulation for these types of projects is a recipe for disaster such as happened at Walkerton because of lack of oversight. I urge the provincial government to abandon the plan to institute the streamlining proposals in the interest of protecting Ontario’s citizens and the environment
