I am against this proposal. It is unbelievable to me that Ontario is even considering it.
Rules and regulations are in place for a reason to protect us and the environment.
This is like letting a child throw anything it wants out the window and saying who cares but worse. Does the government not care about our health or that of the environment at all? This proposal will allow the transport and storage and inevitable dumping of hazardous wastes -including biomedical waste.
This will not only pose serious consequences to the environment (lands, waters, wildlife species at risk) but also to human health.
Asbestos, mercury, arsenic and chromium are all known to be carcinogenic ..just to name a few …let alone the bacteria and viruses that will be unleashed upon an unsuspecting environment and the potential for spread of infectious disease. Let’s roll the dice see where it lands. Many of these and other substances are listed under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act. In fact in the new version of this federal act we all have a right to a healthy environment- this proposal will do the opposite. And cost both in human and environment health and cost the government much more money in the long run. Remember Covid taught us as do Indigenous peoples that we are all connected. If you throw it out over there it will find it’s way over here etc etc.
