Putting a landfil less than…

Putting a landfil less than a km away from town and across the street where other homes currently exist is a huge environmental concern. Landfil hazards include odor, which would be unavoidable in our small town, noise, bugs and more importantly water and soil contamination. Many homes in the area have wells as their main water supply and this town is surrounded by farmland. This landfil will result in leachate being formed that will contaminate water sources and surrounding soil. The Sydenham River is in close proximity to this site which would also have huge environmental repercussions. York 1 has named drywall as one of their wastes which produces hydrogen sulfide gas when left to decompose in landfills. This gas is smelly and potentially lethal. These sulfates are known to leach into groundwater supplies directly affecting wells and livestock. Human exposure to the toxins produced in landfills can cause respiratory, reproductive among other health issues. Landfills are known to generate different kinds of trace toxic elements which include hydrogen sulphide, xylene, dioxin etc. I understand the need for landfills, however, why would you even consider placing one in the backyard of Ontario residents?? This is a small quiet town and we also don't want to hear trucks rolling into our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This landfil will destroy a beautiful community, put it's citizens at risk and affect the environment in a profound negative way.
