I do not believe that this site should become a landfill. I find it difficult to believe this location so close to Molly's creek draining so close to the Sydenham river.
I don't think this site was ever really a landfill in the past. This site was the location of a clay tile manufacturing plant and they excavated clay pits to make clay tile and later on a small scale some of the pits were filled in with fly ash from an incinerator from the town of Dresden. This proposal is to create a landfill in an area of the site that has been used for growing crops. The proposal asks to be able to operate 24hrs a day 7 days a week with up to 6000 tonnes a day meaning a large number of trucks coming and going that would be a considerable disruption to the homes next to the site and the community. The proposal asks to be able to receive source-separated organics, asbestos-containing materials, and tires. I am concerned about how source-separated organics would produce unpleasant odors along with insects and rodents. Asbestos-containing materials are very concerning knowing how harmful asbestos is so hopefully it would be required to be contained inside a building. Tires quantities would be limited due to how flammable tires are and a large quantity that happens to catch fire could be real catastrophe. The proposal to this site has a entrance directly across and directly beside residential homes witch would be very disruptive to the residents of these homes.
