This seems to be a crazy amount of water to be used to clean aggregates. This is going to affect many wells around the proposed gravel pit and could cost farmers and residents with a private well alot of money to drill new wells. It may even cost the Region of Waterloo substantial amounts of money to provide Maryhill residents with good drinking water should the wells be affected by this. They would not only have to drill new wells, but also have to haul in potable water for residents to use while the wells are offline and being drilled.
Also with this amount of water being consumed from the aquifer, it could also cause unfavorable aquifer plumes in the water to move toward current residential/farm wells and town wells, creating water quality issues (unsafe water, stinky, dirty, smelly, etc.). Who is going to cover the cost of having clean safe water to use and consume???? The poor residents and farmers that's who. Not Capital Paving who stands to make millions of dollars off this aggregate pit. A company of this magnitude and value can surely afford to haul/ transport in the required amount of water they require from an offsite viable water source.
Water is a very valuable resource that we all require to survive and we should not take it for granted. There is a Clean Water Act that was put in effect after the unfortunate drinking water disaster in Walkerton and it needs to be followed. SOURCE WATER PROTECTION is a must. All the local residents and the town of Maryhill deserve to continue having a great water source. Please do not allow this permit to take water to go through. Many people may suffer some form of consequence because of another Corporation trying to make alot of money.
Please respect the public, they are the people who pay the taxes.
