This site should not be allowed to be used in this manner. It is an outdated drop off for incenerator for ash and last used as a wood lot. It is 1km from our cemetery, schools, homes and our roads are absolutely not equipped for the heavy traffic this will be forcing upon our small rural town.
The highschool is way too close to this site (the elementary school only a bit further down the road at that), many students walking and being bussed in. The LKCS school board has already made a statement about the dangers countless trucks and the risk to air quality would have for our students.
The site also is right against Molly's Creek that feeds into the Sydenham River, home to many endangered and at-risk species (spiny softshell turtles, eagles, various mussles, etc). Even one incident (a leachate leak, mishandling of the asbestos they intend to bring in, etc) could greatly harm the wildlife our town appreciates on the regular and every person I know in this area agrees we want to ensure it all stays undisturbed.
The materials they intend to process are not just dirt and usual debris either. It is stated in York1s proposal that they will be dealing with asbestos laced materials, which again, 1km near any home, school or source of water is unacceptable. This is right next to fertile farmland and there are no guarantees that this won't harm the soil or waterwells that many depend upon. The mere construction on this facility could irreversibly damage the waterwells and harm crops (the very size of they walls they intend to bulid could prevent proper light getting to the plantlife).
We are a major area for tomato, soy and corn. Our farmers depend on safe, open roads to bring in their harvests and the lands to be kept to their peak in order to grow such foods. They travel right into town to the tomato plant and the feedery, our locals knowing to respect and allow them to do their work. I highly worry that this facility will harm their productivity in full.
The very fact that this site has never had an environmental assessment should be a huge indication that it is from an outdated time. This site was left unchecked after we had to amalgamate into Chatham to become Chatham-kent and never should be allowed to become a mega landfill recycling facility in an area most ill equipped for it. We have no local hospital in the case of severe injuries (you have to travel to Wallaceburg for basic, Chatham for more severe) and overall there is no positives for this facility coming to Dresden outside of those who actually own this company.
I implore that York1 seek a site elsewhere, that this project does not proceed in Dresden in the least. Folks who live here treasure the quiet, neighborly lifestyle and I assure you that if this comes...It will make a ghost town of us. The ones who can leave will, and those like myself who simply cannot...Will be trapped to potentially suffer health risks (airborne particulates/noise pollution/if anything gets into the water/etc).
