It is evident that Ontario cannot develop the core of Bigwind and also maintain its ecological integrity as required under the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act.

Currently, Ontario is stalled at under 11% protection, while the federal government has a goal of 30% protection, which is in line with the science around ecological integrity. Clearly, the province of Ontario needs to step up and expand its protected areas, not cram more people into prime core habitat.

We have fewer and fewer truly wild and protected natural areas in Ontario, thanks to unchecked development and destruction of habitat. Can we not leave some areas alone for wildlife habitat to exist and for species to thrive? I say we can and we should.
