I think a wilderness park is just about perfect. I wish they were far larger. If Parks wants to get into competition with private resorts, they should just buy out already developed areas.
In a city, it is appropriate for a park to cater to casual visitors who just want to add some greenery to their day. Elsewhere, there has been a tendency to just use nature as a playground for off-road machines and a place to run fast boats. That sort of thing just wrecks more of the woefully inadequate resources for historic life forms.
The bonanza of carbon energy has destroyed the former balance, letting us settle almost all the former wilderness, and triple the world population within one lifetime. Now, humans and our domestic animals outweigh all the other birds and mammal species by four times. Potentially priceless life forms are going extinct before they are even described. Let's not push it any more now.
