I'm concerned about the weakening of what was previously a requirement to establish targets for intensification and redevelopment in settlement areas, this is now weakened to simply "encouraging" municipalities to intensify and redevelop only "built up areas" instead of the all settlement areas.
I also disagree with the proposal that two additional dwellings SHALL be permitted on every farm, as long as water and sewage treatment can be provided.
I am heartened to see a return to requiring municipalities to establish and implement minimum targets for the provision of housing that is affordable to low and moderate income households.
The 2021 census shows Ontario is losing 319 acres of farmland a day. Therefore, the Provincial Planning Statement should have stronger language to protect against further loss, and also stronger language to concentrate new homes in the already existing settlement areas.
