Thank you for the opportunity to submit comments regarding the provincial planning statement:
Contrary to the messaging from the province, the proposed changes to the PPS and Bill 185 are unlikely to result in more housing being built. It is likely to result in far less housing while the devastating environmental impacts and other negative consequences that could be felt for generations. Scientists from the International Panel on Climate Change are currently stating that if global climate targets are not meant by 2050, the Earth will warm 2.5°C in coming years. I have
no comprehension whatsoever how the Conservative government can present proposed changes to the PPS and its bill 185 in light of the catastrophic outcomes these pieces of legislation cause to climate change targets. We are in a climate emergency. Because of the legislation put forth by this Conservative government I cannot vote for any government which adopts regressive climate action policies, nor can I advise any other Ontarion to support such a government's policies.
Listed below are recommendations which I believe need to be part of the Provincial Planning Statement (PPS):
- Ruinous changes to remove, or make greenfield density targets optional need to removed, and existing greenfield density targets need to be maintained or increased for all parts of Ontario,
- The elimination of intensification targets needs to be removed. Existing intensification targets need to be maintained or increased and made mandatory - not optional
- 2 additional residences permitted on every farm despite last year’s efforts to prevent the destructive 4 severances per farm needs to be completely removed
- Troubling changes to permit new subdivision developments in rural areas need to be eliminated
- Encouraging development on septic systems and water systems that have proved problematic in the past needs to be eliminated from the proposed PPS changes,
- The Agricultural System and the Natural Heritage System concepts and mapping need to be restored for the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
