We moved north from Toronto into the East Woodbridge area 25 years ago to raise our family in a safe family friendly area that was closer to green space and more open spaces that are not overly congested, and with all family amenities in close proximity (if not walking distance). We moved again within the area a few years ago as we liked the area and it was home.
Over the same period of a few years, there are numerous high-rise proposals in progress that will transform the area into something completely different and not family friendly. All the amenities are being replaced by buildings and travel to get to further locations is a road trip. Congestion was already at a tipping point and will now become an unlivable concrete jungle, unsafe for kids and pedestrians and with poor air quality.
Even with the subway extending north, it takes longer to get to the subway than it did before the extension - it used to be faster to drive to Wilson or Yorkdale than it is now to Vaughan (limited high price parking) or Hwy 407 with huge congestion. A bus ride to get to the subway alone is 45 min to an hour.
It isn't just irresponsible and poor planning to now saturate the area with high rises, but grossly unfair to those of us who have made a long term investment to live in this area and are effectively being forced out. This isn't the future we chose and we have not been consulted.
