Dear Premier Ford, Minister Calandra, Minister Tibollo
Ontario Government, Queens Park
Honourable Gentlemen,
Re: Opposition of Battcorp development application 661 & 681 Chrysler Rd, Vaughan
I am a resident of Weston Downs and I strongly oppose the Battcorp development application at 631 & 681 Chrislea, Vaughan.
The Battcorp site is not appropriate for residential housing as it …
-is a standalone cluster that lacks amenities of a residential area (in a Commercial Business Park, which borders a Hwy 400 on-ramp)
-is far from mass transit (Hwy 7 Rapidway, Subway other side of Hwy 400),
-would un-necessarily increase traffic congestion on Langstaff which is already taking overflow traffic congestion from Hwy 7 from densification from Jane St corridor & the introduction of bus lanes.
Battcorp development is better suited to the Jane plus Hwy 7 corridor. It …
-is a designated a high density area (contains all the amenities for community)
-is walking distance to newly constructed mass transit (good for residents)
-Supports substantial mass transit investment made (Rapidway & Subway) N.B. to reduce transit deficits
-Preserves the business park and helps avoid turning Vaughan into a bedroom community. Case in point: adjoining property already declared they will apply as well.
-has plenty of capacity for growth 80 high density towers planned for Jane St site alone approx 20 towers already built, 60 more coming in due time, over 15,000 units already approved to build , but slow to build due to cost of funds and low demand. many more opportunities available along Hwy7 Rapidway from Markham to Vaughan
I feel that I have brought forward many good reasons to decline the Battcorp application and respectfully ask for you support.
Weston downs resident.
P.S.
I am disappointed that the Vaughan Mayor and a majority of Council recommended the MZO. I am concerned that they undermined their own OP, disregarded the concerns of TRCA, and removed all regular studies on a marginal and previously declined application, They are the weak link in the MZO process. I only wish that they had had the fortitude to do what is good for their community in the same spirit that the Oakville Mayor recently demonstrated to the federal government.
