It is my understanding that many countries have banned snares because they are inhumane. Not only should we not be changing any specifications without accompanied proof and supporting documentation, we should be encouraging farmers to use non-lethal means to repel predating animals and phasing out snares altogether. They are not certified under the Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards. Ontario continues to lag behind other countries and provinces in promoting the returned spring bear hunt and trying to bring back penned hunting. Clearly this is yet another attempt to support hunters and trappers to the detriment of our wildlife.
