I am deeply concerned about the legislation the Province wishes to implement concerning snares. If the changes are indeed based on research, the Province must publish those findings so that all interested and concerned can avail themselves of this information.
As we come to understand animal behaviour better, the welfare of animals must become paramount. What is unacceptable is that an animal should suffer for prolonged periods for the convenience of the trapper. Snares are not actually traps, as you will know, and given the pain they inflict should not be used at all in the Province. The precedent for abandoning use of these harmful devises has been well set elsewhere in the world. We should follow suit.
