First of all, it would be greatly appreciated if the province can post the research findings it references on the ERO page so that people commenting on this can make informed comments.
It makes no sense that trapping laws are based on guidelines created by the commercial fur industry, rather than current, peer-reviewed science.
Killing and restraining snares should not be used to trap wildlife in Ontario as research has shown that they result in negative animal welfare outcomes for both target and non-target animals. Snares are not certified traps under the Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards and should be prohibited in the province.
Why is a progressive country like Canada not outright banning the use of snares, that often result in horrendous suffering on its victims?
Let's encourage Farmers to use non-lethal, predator friendly farming methods instead of trapping wildlife.
