Power Purchase Agreements are a very important step forward, but this regulation can and should do much more. There is a massive and complicated set of problems looming for our energy situation (generation, transmission, democratization, equity, etc), and an incredible set of opportunities (affordability, reliability, sustainability, equity). We need to do more than allow PPAs for a small set of major businesses. We need solutions like Community Solar and other types of democratized electricity that enable a range of energy users to access clean, affordable and reliable electricity. The current government says it is Open for Business and wants to reduce red tape - one way to action these phrases is to extend the opportunity for PPAs to a wider range of energy generators and consumers, and create the policy and financial frameworks to enable Community Solar. It's possible to do something transformative that will create a positive legacy.
