Rain Carbon Canada Inc. - Environmental Compliance Approval (air)

This proposal is for an Environmental Compliance Approval (Air & Noise) amendment for all emissions from Rain Carbon Canada Inc., a coal tar and petroleum-based material processing facility located in Hamilton, Ontario.

The proposal is for all sources at the facility, including the receiving, handling, distillation, and storage of materials, as well as emissions from all supporting equipment and processes at the site.

This proposal is for:

• a thermal oxidizer,
• a waste heat boiler,
• an enclosed flare, and
• a sulphur compound scrubber.

Contaminant emissions to the atmosphere include:

• benzo(a)pyrene,
• benzene,
• polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons,
• sulphur compounds,
• napthalene,
• nickel,
• suspended particulate matter, and
• nitrogen oxides.

Rain Carbon has also applied for the renewal of site specific standards for benzene and benzo(a)pyrene emissions from the facility. The site specific standards application is currently under review by the Ministry and a separate environmental proposal will be posted for public comment.
