While it is essential to decrease emissions, and a cap-and-trade policy seems to be the best way to do this, and with Ontario already in such a system it would be extremely imprudent to reneg on it. Ontario's real opportunity is to promote forest growth, organic soils in forests, agricultural land, and wetlands, and especially to increase the carbon held in peatlads. The plausible way to do this is to build tens of thousands of dams across the outlets of of all the wetlands in Ontario, especially in the Boreal Forest, and raise the sills of these dams a centimetre per year, to mazimise the sequestration of carbon in peat.
