Self caught minnows are one of the ways I fish for food here in Armstrong Station area. There are no bait shops in area closer than THUNDER BAY. This is a 6 hour round trip so I would not want to kill minnows after 2 weeks. I use an aerator to keep them alive whether I catch them or buy them. why waste healthy minnows ? With catching minnows I get some sickle backs and we find they are the best bait for splake . Why put more regulations on trapping the minnows in this remote area? We can now use only one trap with marked name and address and size is spelled out , also only 120 minnows per person. To buy at present in Thunder Bay price is $1.00 plus per minnow plus 500km. trip with gasoline above $1.35 a liter makes pretty expensive minnows to have to kill them after 2 weeks. I have kept minnows alive for most of the winter with an aerator. We enjoy fishing for eating only, not catch and release. I can see need for caution where invasive species are present but we live less than 2 miles south of zone boundary so using minnows from north side of boundary on south side makes sense to me here. What are proposed regulations for self caught minnows? licence and log book? What cost? need more info. Why change regulations that are already working? Why can minnows not be used in local parks? A lot of the proposals do not seem to make sense to me.
