This proposed bill is counter to the credible research on bike lanes, traffic congestion management, road safety, and overall livability and systemic health impacts of additional motor vehicles in cities. In short, it is bad policy.
As a voter, I would campaign against any government that puts our health at risk for politics. As a city dweller, I support research based policy that improves the health, ease of mobility, and environment of its citizens. Please do not enact this bill - there are many better ways to improve traffic congestion, from investing in transit, building more bike lanes, investing in intensification, and very simple traffic grid and regulation measures that are much more cost efficient and have positive side effects.
