This has to be the stupidest notion I’ve come across in a long time.
Even a casual reading of the research shows that bike lanes generally do not affect congestion. So the whole premise is simply bonkers. See article below.
It is beyond ludicrous to think that a blanket, one-size fits all approach to traffic issues which are by definition local and in which every road and street is different and in which each demands unique solutions can possibly be addressed by this farcical policy.
In addition, consider that municipalities have far more experience and expertise in urban road planning than the Ontario government. They know their issues and problems intimately.
In sum, a triumph of ideology over science.
