I cannot believe we are having to discuss the problems associated with the environment the increased footprint size of garden suites cause. I live in Long Branch south of Lakeshore and have lived there for 35 years. From the time we moved in, houses in our neighbourhood have been getting water in their basements. The problem has been acerbated in this area by the lot splitting where 2 homes have been built that are each 2x the size of the original homes. All the mature trees on the lots have been removed. The new owners are to replace those trees which have taken
50 plus years to grow but are only required to purchase trees the size of twigs.
When someone purchases a home-they check out the neighbourhood. It is a huge decision. The last thing someone wants is their neighbour being able to build essentially a second home on their lot that blocks their light, looks into their backyard and forces more water on to their property.
I think it is irresponsible of the province, city to increase the floorspace, height, and space between buildings and current homes for garden suites. It is not good for neighbourhoods and does not
make for good neighbours.
