This is my second comment on this Bill, the first addressed my disappointment with the addition of red tape for municipalities around bike lanes. This comment is to share my thoughts on the section of the Act that provides an exemption from the Environmental Assessment Act for enterprises, activities, proposals, plans and programs for or related to Highway 413, including the Highway 413 Project and the Highway 413 early works projects.
Environmental assessments are not red tape, they are measures to protect sensitive and important wildlife. We are in a climate crisis, adding more highways is not the solution. Supporting work-from-home, improving bike lanes, improving public transit - these are measures that help Ontarians get to work safely and in an environmental conscious way. The more cars we get off the roads, the better - not the other way around.
If this provincial government is so set on a highway that many Ontarians do not want, at the bare minimum follow the EAA processes to reduce the impact of it's creation.
