I am extremely opposed to Bill 4, The Cap and Trade Cancellation Act 2018. I am concerned about climate change in our province, country and globally. This summer was one of the hottest summers on record in Toronto, where I live, and it continues to experience unprecedented flooding and storms.
I along with 60% of Ontarians did not vote for Doug Ford. I was not initially consulted by the Premier and this government about the cancellation which is a LEGAL requirement on the part of the provincial government. I expect that the Premier have a strong plan of action to combat climate change and protect its citizens from the devastating effects that are inevitable if no proper plan is put in place.
I find it reprehensible of the Premier and his ministry to dismantle this program with no other evidence-based program in place to replace it. I expect our government to take leadership in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and not dismantle a program that is striving to do just that.
