Just this week I read an article released by the BBC about how the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) just released a report about climate change; more specifically, the rise in our earth’s temperature. The article states how we need to prevent a temperature increase of only half a degree more over the next century to prevent further catastrophe. Sadly, the way things are going, it is projected that we are going to exceed this increase in the next 12 years.
This article, along with many others that I have read, honestly scares me to think about what our future holds and the future of the children I one day hope to have. I’m not sure how as brothers, sisters, parents, children and friends, we cannot see how important this issue is. We all talk about how we feel horrible for people being hit with flooding, hurricanes and extreme heat and weather patterns, without realizing that this IS climate change and WE ARE contributing to it.
As government officials, you are suppose to be bringing these issues to light; not ignoring them and getting rid of the only law we have on climate change. By introducing Bill 4, you are telling Ontarians that you do not care about their future. You are being a part of the problem that we all face, instead of trying to be the solution. I am infuriated that this is something that I have to worry about in my future and nobody who has the power to make this change seems to care.
